You are bidding on a superb Completely Original - untouched - ANTIQUE DUTCH STAARTCLOK....From the GROEDE area of ZAANDAM....Total Length 28 inches.....Largest Width 10 inches..Face diameter 4.75 inches. Case is Oak, original untouched surface, showing only very slight shrinkage consistent with age. Hood has original glass, with a blued tin roof. Finials are no longer t The face appears to be the MOON, against a Black Universe....the minute hand having a pointed finger, the hour hand has a silhouette face (The Man in The Moon?) Original blueing on both hands. All Roman Numerals are hand painted....T is a slight surface scratch on the face about 1.5 inches long, below the centre, easily whitened if necessary...I could have coloured it, but I did say "untouched" The movement is complete and in working order, though needs a clean.... The Pendulum, total length 19.5 inches, hung by - I assume - a silk thread from a thin spike on the rear of the case, swings inside the flat case against the wall, the case having a a wider section below to contain the Bob, visible through the oval fretted brass window with Father Time and Rooster (Day) and Owl (Night) This Pendulum is also untouched, a beautiful colour (Patina) all original including the square adjustment nut. The sandcast Bob has the number 5400 and inscribed writing...."Tikken" (I think) and another word...... My limited research, mainly from BRITTENS OLD CLOCKS AND WATCHES THEIR MAKERS AND MARKS...Published 1899, states that this type of clock is "Never signed, and practically never dated" ....This movement however - never cleaned - and with the absence of any repair marks, has a beautiful Engraved Backplate as seen in the images..".W Sak W Z" "GROEDE" " In Zeel'd " ....This all leads me to believe this is possibly an APPRENTICE Clock. I would certainly appreciate any comments from Collectors about this rare Dutch Clock, any further information I will add in due course..... e mail with any questions.
