Some characteristics include: *It is constructed out of premium quality Red Oak Hardwood for strength and durability.*It's has 8 stadium style rows (approx 1/4 inch wide) for displaying your coins. *I Finished it with three coats of UV protective clear gloss poly for protection of wood and long lasting luster.*It measures approx. 14 X 10 inches at the base and stands approx 5 inches tall.*you can proudly display up to 60 PLUS coins depending on size. *It has felt footers to protect your desk or furniture from scratches. *T are also four countersunk FELT LINED coin holes for displaying your favorite or more prized coins. They are all lined with felt (colors of your choice are red , blue , black ). Please tell me when you make payment what color felt you would like on your display. If you would like a different color felt..please ask to see if i have your color available *T is also space in the front of the slots and between the countersunk holes for a brass name plate or any other personalization you wish to make to this piece. History of the Challenge Coin World War I During World War I, American volunteers from all parts of the country filled the newly formed flying squadrons. Some were wealthy scions attending colleges such as Yale and Harvard who quit in mid-term to join the war. In one squadron a wealthy lieutenant ordered medallions struck in solid bronze carrying the squadron emblem for every member of his squadron. He himself carried his medallion in small leather pouch around his neck. Shortly after acquiring the medallions, the pilot's aircraft was severely damaged by ground fire.
