England brown transferware Melrose platter Ashworth bros/19c Rare Staffordshire Aesthetic Victorian dish, roses, ribbons & ducks/1887 This auction is for a beautiful antique platter in Melrose pattern which was made in 19 century in England Staffordshire district by Ashworth Brothers pottery. The scene at this beautiful Victorian dish depicts a branch of roses with leaves and small buds. The branch is attached to a beautiful twisted ribbon. T is a medallion in the corner which has couple of swimming ducks in the middle. It is a design which truly represents that wonderful 19 century Aesthetic movement time period. The transfer is clean and sharp. It is pretty large platter which measures 13 1/2 inches by 10 1/2 inches. The platter is deep enough to hold enough sauce or juice if desired. The dish has an old Ashworth Brothers crown and banner hallmark at the back. It reads A.Bros Melrose. T is also English Rd N.12797. T is also incised mark with numbers which I can't make out. The platter is in great condition. T are no chips, cracks, hairlines or any other damage. T are a few imperfections from a kiln which is not unusual for that time period. T is a fine crazing which is expected for pottery this old.
