ANTIQUE STAFFORDSHIRE POTTERY HEN ON NEST C. 19TH CENTURY This wonderful original old Staffordshire Hen on Nest from the Staffordshire region of England has a basket which is 8" x 6.5", and the top is 8.25" x 5.75". The top has wonderful painting with gray feathers, brown detail and white dots. The tail has alternating black and gray feathers with brown detail. The head has a vibrant orange comb, gray and black beak with a couple of very minor shallow flake chips, which have been shown in the photo's. I have shown one picture with flash, to better show detail. The hen really could use a good cleaning, but she is so old that I decided to leave a better cleaning to her new owner. The yellow basket really shows this fine pieces age. T is a repaired broken portion on the top scallop which has a fine hairline crack going down into the basket,which is through and through, and another hairline on the opposite side, which also goes down into the basket.Both areas have been shown in pictures. T are some inner rim chips, which can also be seen in the photo's. The fine glaze crazing is best seen on the inner high gloss white surface of the basket and the bottom of the basket. Even with the minor damage on the basket, it is hard to top this wonderful antique piece, which can be added to your collection at a fraction of the value of $748, as listed in the Antique Trader POTTERY & PORCELAIN CERAMIC PRICE GUIDE, 5th Edition, on page 659. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thanks for viewing my auction. This price is much more than what it should be. I do not charge a handling fee on second and subsequent items, and the computer calculated cost of shipping combined is incorrect and exorbitant.
