I believe this is a very old hawkbill or pruning knife. It has a single blade and thick stag handle covers. The tang is stamped "J. COPLEY AND SONS RICHMOND WORKS", and the blade is stamped "BEST QUALITY". The knife when closed is between 4 5/8" (11.7 cm) and 4 3/4" (12 cm) long depending on whether measured at the top or the bottom of the curve. The blade length is 3 7/16" (8.7 cm). It has iron bolsters, lining and end cap. This vintage folding knife is obviously used, but still in good condition. The stag is cracked near the bottom two pins as can be seen in at least one of the photos. The stag also has a few other minor cracks and scratches, which I believe can also be picked out in the pictures. T are no broken or missing pieces in the handle or knife. All iron parts show some light rust, but no deep pits. The blade also has some pitting (not deep), scratches and (I think) blade loss. One other weak area needs to be pointed out. If the knife is closed, and the blade is up, a worn (not missing) spot can be seen in the stag near the tip of the blade on one side. It appears that the finish or shine is just worn off. This shows up in one of the pictures as a light-colored area, about 3/4" (2 cm) long and about 1/4" ((0.5 cm) wide. The blade stops and holds solidly into place when fully open and when half open.
