You are bidding on a fine original Stag "Minstrel" mahogany finish wardrobe armoire. A classic two door Gentleman's fitted wardrobe standing on a bracket foot plinth with a shaped apron molded edge and rising over two fielded paneled doors surmounted by the flared cornice. Upon opening reveals an interior fitted with a dressing mirror behind the right hand door and a tie rack behind the left. On the right hand side a third section of the wardrobe is devoted to shelving, having four shelves and two drawers for storage of garments. To the left is the two third widths hanging compartment with a shoe rack to the base. The wardrobe retains its original circular dropper brass handles. A classic piece of Stag furniture dating circa 1960s - 1970s

The wardrobe is in good original condition and has been well looked after, as it has been used more for long term storage than regular usage.

Measurements: 177cm (70") high x 95cm (37.5") width x 58cm (23") deep.

Stag furniture was a mass market manufacturer that made some outstanding modern designs. They employed John and Sylvia Reid as design consultants. Their first designs for Stag, the 'C' range, were minimalist in the extreme. Later John and Sylvia Reid designed 'Minstrel', which united eighteenth century elegance and modern day thinking. After designing some stunning modern furniture for Stag, the couple updated the traditional Madrigal range in 1964. The new range was Stag's best-selling range of furniture, and possibly the best selling UK furniture range ever. Named Minstrel, the new range was an evolution of Madrigal. Stag Minstrel was one of the most successful ranges of furniture ever produced. Stag Minstrel furniture was made from makore (or African Cherry), both solid and veneered. It was of similar appearance to the earlier Madrigal, but has new, simpler brass handles.
