Wonderful wood carved Black Forest bear figure standing on her hind legs, holding a sphere topped by a golden crown. She stands on a 3 3/4" (almost 10 cm)across round base. With her on the base, including the sphere & crown she stands all of 9 1/2" tall (24 1/2 cm). The sphere is smooth and very round, though you can see barely, the line where it was made in 2 halves and put together. The small golden crown atop the sphere has very minor wear at the tip top of the crown. The bear herself has a super minor chip on her right elbow - shown in 1 of the photos - could easily be touched up to not show. Base also has a minor spot, but might even be from the original making. Base does not set super flat, minor rock to it, but still steady. The tones of this bear's coat is wonderful - rich brown and black tones. She has lovely black glass eyes and a really haunting look on her face, I think. Something looks to have been written at one time on the underside of the abse, but I can't tell what. She's a great example of Black Forest carving and a joy to have, but she needs a home where she can have more visitors and be enjoyed by more people, so I reluctantly offer her up for your bids. I'm starting her off very low, so more people might have the dream of owning her. Her previous home was that of the former curator of Decorative Arts at the New Orleans Museum of Art, in Louisiana.
