Stangl Port Norris Oyster Company, New JerseyFive-Well "Turkey" Oyster Plate This is a beautiful majolica-style oyster plate that resembles the "turkey" oyster plate design; it is very heavy. It has a deep pink background and five wells. The shape resembles a turkey, thus it is described as a "turkey" oyster plate. It is about 9-1/4 inches wide. It is in great condition--no chips or cracks. There are holes on the back rim for hanging. On the back of the plate, there are three stamps: Handcrafted for PORT NORRIS OYSTER CO. PORT NORRIS, N.J.; an oval Stangl trademark stamp; and a round marking that includes the Potters Association Glaze Tested Approved stamp. (I have included photos of the markings for you to see.) This is a beautiful oyster plate. There is a very small unglazed rough spot on the back rim where it sits, and a few very tiny dark dots on the front. These are barely noticeable. I have included a number of photos; so please review them carefully. Please write if you need additional information. This particular oyster plate is featured in the book Collecting Oyster Plates by Jeffrey B. Snyder (page 49). Mr. Snyder describes this oyster plate as a "turkey design" by Stangl Pottery, Trenton, New Jersey. I ship USPS Priority Mail (Insured).
