Stanley 358 Mitre Box. The antique that still works. Whether you're looking for something to add to your collection or you just want the cordless simplicity of a hand mitre saw, this early 20th century, professional grade, American made classic is a wonderful find. All images are of the actual items high bidder will win at auction's end By today's standards the mitre stop markings of 24, 12, 8, 6, 5 and 4 may appear peculiar until you know it is referencing the number of sides to the frame being built. e.g., 45° is denoted as "4" for a four sided frame. 22½° is indicated by the numeral "8". Antiquated perhaps, but it does have a certain charm to its simplicity. In contemporary terminology it features left & right stops at 45°, 36°, 30°, 22½°, 15° and 7½° plus zero or 90°. A close inspection does reveal some light surface rusting; no doubt from long term storage. Visually this is not a museum piece. Most certainly it was the stock-in-trade of a craftsman. Despite this, or perhaps because it was used with such professional respect, all moving parts still move and adjust smoothly and accurately. The actual cutting area of the saw measures 28" x 5" and we believe it to be the original that accompanied the mitre box. The photo above shows the inscription on the blade which reads: STANLEY - Mitre Box Saw - Manufactured By - Henry Disston
