The Stanley #9 Cabinet Makers Block Plane was made from 1867 to 1943. Considering its 76-year production run, relatively few examples of this plane exist in excellent condition. John Walter, in his excellent book on Stanley tools, noted that These planes are frequently damaged or cracked
due to the thin construction of the body.
This plane has the Sweetheart blade marking ( 1918-23), and is in excellent condition. There is no damage, except for the normal very slight nicks and dings that happen normally to an 81-year-old tool that has been used. I have cleaned the exterior body of the plane, but otherwise it is as found. There are minor scratches on the sole and sides, and japanning on the inside of the plane is about 85-90% . It appears that there has been a repair to one of the ears of the iron casting that connects the knob with the body of the plane. This cannot be seen without removing the blade, as the exterior surface of the casting is perfect. This is why the price is not near the top end of the book value. Please dont hesitate to ask questions, request more photos, etc. , and please take time to view our other offerings. We have fine antique American furniture, nautical antiquities, and a few rare antique tools.
