Vintage Stanley Bailey No. 4C Corrugated Smooth Plane - 1940s Era - Tuned, Sharp & Ready to Use! Up for auction is a beautiful old Stanley Bailey No. 4C Smooth Plane dating from the late 1940s. The bed is marked with "Made in USA" behind the frog, "Bailey" behind the knob, and "No 4" in front of the knob. The lateral adjustment lever is marked "Stanley". The lever cap features the kidney style slot with notched logo and retains almost all of the nickel plating. The "BB" trademark iron is nearly full length and has been freshly sharpened. Condition The casting is free of chips, breaks, and repairs. The cheeks and corrugated sole have a nice light aged patina. The plane has approximately 80-90% of the original japanning remaining. All of the fastening and adjustment hardware is very clean and crud free. The wood tote and knob are free of chips, breaks and repairs, but both have the typical toolbox dings and scars. The brass is clean but has not been polished. All knobs and adjustment features work perfectly. Freshly Sharpened and Ready to Use This plane has been fully adjusted, sharpened, and is ready to use. The frog seat was cleaned, securely tensioned to the base, and adjustability tested. I checked the flatness of the frog face and mating of the iron against it.
