You are bidding on one Stanley #5 Hand Plane, Type 6 (1888-1892). This plane has not been "restored" - I have cleaned the plane, removed all rust, repaired and refinished a cracked tote and applied a light coat of paste wax to the entire plane for protection. The shavings you see in the first image were made with this plane. The arrow in the close-up image of the tote points to the location of the repair. The image of the bottom of the tote shows two pins I put in after gluing the tote back together. I would have given up on the tote, but the break was clean and appeared to be recent.T is some pitting on many of the parts. The mouth is tight and t are no cracks in the castings. Little of the original Japanning remains - mostly on the toe, under the knob. Some of the stampings are partially obscured by pitting. These are my best guesses at the inscriptions. The inscription on the blade reads, "STANLEY PAT. APL. 19. 92." The inscription on the blade cap reads, "L.BAILEY'S PATENT DEC. 24, 1867." The inscription on the adjustment lever reads, "STANLEY PAT 9.8.76 IC.2184 7.24.88." The inscription in the recess of the knob reads, "BAILEY'S PATENT AUG. 31, 1858 - AUG. 6, 1867." The knob has right-hand threads. The screw that secures the blade cap to the blade is smooth vs. knurled as found on later Stanleys. If you're looking for a Type 6 read more
