This plane appears to be one of the first No. 20's to be manufactured by Stanley after it acquired parts and patents from Bailey. The parts are consistent with a mid 1890's manufacture date: S foundry mark on lever cap and frog, 3 patent date lat lever, and Q tm iron. T are no other patent dates on plane except for lat lever and iron. The parts appear to have been together since manufacture, no obvious replacements. All parts were nickel plated (except, perhaps, adjustment depth adjustment nut and iron, of course). T are some issues, however: 1) the nickel is largely gone remaining on about 25%, the little screw that locks sole adjustment is missing, the depth adjustment nut has plier marks (see arrow), and t is a crack on one side of the rear casting that holds the sole strap (see arrow). None of these things hurt its use as it has been a good user in my shop for several years and is sharp, solid and ready to go.Questions welcome.
