STANLEY NO 87 SCRAPER PLANE, SCARCE AND NICE This is a Stanley #87 Cabinet Makers Scraper Plane. It is 8" long and has a cast iron, japanned body, rosewood handle and knob and steel blade. On the front of the body is cast "NO 87 PAT STANLEY APL'D FOR". The screw that holds the blade tight has the Stanley "V" trademark logo on it, that was used c.1914. This plane was manufactured between 1905 and 1917 by Stanley. Blade is unmarked, but appears original. This plane is very hard to come by. Apparently Stanley realized that t were several features missing on the #87 that their customers desired. Around 1904 Stanley brought out the #85 which had a rabbit mouth and tilting handles. The #85 was a much better seller than the #87. These #87's are pretty scarce. This one is as nice a #87 plane as I have ever seen. Everything is above average. Handle and knob are great with no chips, splits, cracks, etc. Japanning is about 97% on this plane. No rust or corrosion on the exposed surfaces. In short, they don't come much better. Probably, little used and the only wear comes from sitting around workbenches for 100 years. An example that will never need to be upgraded (unless you find one new in the box, and you know what your chances are at that). My E-Bay philosophy is simple, you are the customer and you decide how you want to handle the deal. read more
