This is a beautiful red and white "star" quilt. I'm not exactly sure if that is the correct name for the quilt pattern. This quilt was probably made in the 1940's, maybe a little earlier. My husband and I are in the process of downsizing, and this is one of the articles that must go. The quilt was made by a family member. It measures 68" X 68". It is hand pieced and quilted with about 6 stitches to the inch. T are 16 star blocks in the quilt. The border is 3 inches with a red border being 1", followed by white 1", red 3/4 inch and then the white binding. The edges are in really good shape. They are getting a little thin, but t are no tears in the binding. The back is white and is in real good shape, no discoloring. You can see part of the red area showing through the white back, so it seems to me that the muslim batting is thin. The quilt is clean. It has been washed several times and has been used. Additionally, t are 4 star squares that are showing wear. I've taken a picture of the worse one, picture number 4. The other 3 squares that are showing wear are not this bad. Another unusual remark regarding this beautiful quilt, I don't know why, but t is a area on one of the side borders, about 2 inches long, that is a white border instead of red. I guess she ran out of red material, otherwise, I have no idea why the quilt is this way. read more
