This auction is for Star Spangled Comics #1, the first actual story appearance of the Star Spangled Kid & Stripesy. Action Comics #40 had a 3 page preview ad to promote this comic and the characters. Jerry Siegel, of Siegel & Shuster/Superman fame, was the author of the stories about the Star Spangled Kid & Stripesy. Hal Sherman did the cover art and the art for Jerry Siegel's stories. Mort Weisinger has one story in this issue, featuring the original spider-based hero, the Tarantula. The next month Mort did the stories for the first appearance of Green Arrow and Aquaman in the legendary More Fun 73. Jon Blummer, creator of Hop Harrigan, did the story and art for one of the stories in this issue, featuring Captain X, and Ed Moore did the script and art for Armstrong of the Army, also in this issue. This is CGC Graded 6.5, giving it a value of $1976.00 according to the Overstreet Price Guide. (CGC 6.0 = 1482.00, CGC 8.0 = $3458.00, which makes CGC 7.0 = $2470.00 and CGC 6.5 = $1976.00) This will be shipped Priority Mail with insurance at no charge to the winning bidder.
