You are bidding on a Star Trek Commemorative Chess Set that commemorates Star Trek's 25th anniversary in 1991.It is p roduced by the Franklin Mint.It originally sold for around $1100.The quality of this set is amazing.The top comes off so you can store the pieces underneath in a special compartment.The top is see-through glass with the board outlines on it and underneath is a reflective blue mirror with various decorations on it.Also included is the original Certificate of Authenticity and the original booklets that shows/describes each chess piece. The pieces are the following Star Trek Characters : Gold Pieces King: Captain James T. Kirk Queen: Lt. Uhura Bishops: Commander Spock and Dr. Leonard McCoy Knights: Lt. Cmdr. Montgomery Scott and Lt. Hikaru Rooks: The USS Enterprise Pawns: Starfleet Security Officers Silver Pieces King: Khan Noonien Singh Queen: The Romulan Commander From The Enterprise Incident Bishops: A Vian and the Gorgan Knights: Romulan Officer and Gorn Commander Rooks: Klingon D7-class Cruiser Pawns: Klingon Foot Soldiers The pieces were produced in pewter.They are electroplated with 24-karat gold or Sterling Silver and placed on crystal hexagonal bases.One of the chess pieces has a very light chip on its base but it is real small.
