Fresh from an Estate Sale and in "As Found" condition is this rare Starr & Marcus - New York (1850-1890) English Silver basket or sugar bowl? Two areas of this piece need minor restoration--the dent on the side you see in the first photo and the slightly "off round" spot on the bottom (top of the photo of the bottom.) The bottom is marked with the Starr & Marcus New York mark and also the 367 English Sterling mark. What makes this piece stunning are the two snakes or serpent handle holders and the reticulated neck. The base or foot is also embossed. The piece measures 4" to the top of the snakes or serpents and about 4.5" at its widest point and weighs 9.4 ounces. With some restoration and polishing, this is sure be a spectacular piece.
