In this auction I am offering... Startling Comics #20 (9.2/9.4/NM-/NM except two extra staples; White pages); Mile High/Edgar Church pedigree copy; this issue features a Jack Binder cover and art. This copy of Startling #20 is the single highest quality copy known to exist. It is near impossible to find a copy of this in ANY grade. Mile High/Church copies of even the most mundane books tend to command about 2x guide price, with higher demand and/or rare books often commanding 4-6x guide price. The Mile High collection is the single most well-known, sought after and established pedigree collection in history. The massive collection of between 18,000 and 22,000 books was built by Edgar Church, who was an advertisement artist that lived in Colorado . The collection is famed for holding the highest quality copies of many Golden Age books, including the most highly sought after comic of allâe"Action Comics #1. The story behind this collection is an enthralling story, which is chronicled in detail by its founder, Chuck Rozanski, the owner of Mile High Comics. As stated before, the original owner of this collection was Edgar Church. He was born on November 28 th , 1888 in Connecticut . He married at the age of 24, having one son (Richard) from this marriage who was born in 1917. He would later divorce, and marry again in 1922, to a woman by the name of Helenâe"they had a girl (Doris) who was born in 1923. Church amassed his colossal collection of comics, pulps and other forms of art mostly due in part to him being a phonebook artist for what would become the Yellow Pages. In 1912, he started as a freelance artist, and even had his own studio. From 1925-1953, Church worked at Mountain Bell, which was the phone company for that region of the country. He was very talented at mimicking various art styles and would keep various forms of art so that he could use them as reference. U.S. Shipping: I will gladly combine shipping for those winning more than one auction. All books are shipped USPS Priority Mail (in a box). Costs for more than one auction purchase will depend upon location, as it is more expensive to ship books the farther their destination. However, up to 45 books can be shipped for $10 (it is beneficial to buy in bulk), so as long as the order is 45 books or under it will be no more than $10. Canadian Shipping: I ship to Canada (in a box) for similar prices as U.S. shipping. International Shipping: I ship worldwide. For raw books, shipping is $12 to be shipped via Priority Mail (flat rate envelope). For CGC graded books, expect international shipping to run in the $15-30 range (shipped in a box).
