I remember the first time I saw a New Mexico highway sign...I loved it at first sight. How utterly cool to put an indian symbol into a state road sign.It is very handsome still.I dont know if they still use this form of highway sign in New Mexico.Maybe they have changed and it would be a pity.I doubt however if they still use this form it is still the same handsome and deep embossment. This seems like a form unique to the old days when making it dramatic and beautiful was important. The only part of this sign that isnt embossed is the number 72 which is screened on.The sign is complete with a rifle bullet in the bullseye of the center circle.I bought this in an antique store in New Mexico many years ago.The rust might come off with waxing or compounding using automobile materials. The back shot shows the deep embossment that makes this sign so handsome. And t is the red indian symbol that is central to the design of this sign. The size is 16 inches in diameterand it is heavy for its size.
