This pair of Staffordshire dogs are in excellent condition. They have a high gloss finish. They are made of a very high quality pottery, almost like porcelain. The molded pair have deeply defined wavy hair, hair in twist of the tail. on the ears and on the back of the figure. The feet are not separated. The gold on the color, tag, and chain is 98% intact. The mouth is slightly open showing a red paint to indicate the tongue and mouth. The ears, tail, and two large and two smaller areas are a rust color. The body is white. T are two holes on each piece that were made when the piece was made, I believe they used them on solid pieces of porcelan and pottery in the drying process. On each dog t is one on the back of the neck right by the ear and partially on the collar. The other hole is on the bottom. On the bottom of each piece the center portion of the base has a glaze. Under the glaze, on each dog, written in black is the number 5 and the figure of a question mark (?). On the rim of the bottom t is a logo stamp The logo writing and logo are in red in an oval shape with the word Staffordshire, next word I cannot read and the bottom of the oval is England. This logo stamp can barely be seen on the rim of the bottom and at the top of the picture. In the centerof the logo it looks like a red rope, or cord being tied into the first loop of a knot. The dogs are a heavy, good quality. I took them to an antique store ten years ago and they told me they were probably made by the Wellington Pottery Co. Hanley, England for a short time 1899-1901. They are 10 1/2" tall at the hightest point. The base is 6" long. T are a few tiny mold flaws on each dog that are seen on close inspection. Buyer pays for shipping and insurance. I do require insurance for the dogs in the auction. I do not charge a handling fee. They would be a lovely Christmas gift for a person who likes, dogs, or Staffordshire pottery pieces.
