Listed for auction is an impressive Statue of Liberty historical display which contains the autographs of Frederic Auguste Bartholdi who was the sculptor who designed the Statue of Liberty, and Francis Hopkinson Smith, who was the engineer of the decorative foundation which the Statue of Liberty sits upon. Frederic Auguste Bartholdi [1834 1904] was a French sculptor who was commissioned by the French Third Republic to design a memorial to show the fraternal feelings existing between the republics of the United States and France. Bartholdi began to work on the statue in the early 1870's and the statue was formally delivered to the American minister in Paris on July 4, 1880, and reached the United States in 1885, and was formally dedicated on October 28, 1886. Francis Hopkinson Smith [1838 1915] was an author, artist and engineer who was commissioned as the engineer for the foundation for the Statue of Liberty. The autographs are the center of an attractive display and are signed on album pages as follows, ''For autograph F. Bartholdi, N.Y. Novemver 18th 1889'' in black fountain pen and ''With great pleasure, F. Hopkinson Smith, N.Y. Mch 5/94'' in black fountain pen.
