Richard Steiff joined his famous Auntie's company in 1897, and from his love of real Bears, and talented imagination, he designed what we know as the Teddy Bear in 1902. This new product caught on, and by 1906, Richard Steiff, appreciating the demand for dressed Bears, provided his Bears with a wde ranging wardrobe, and so to celebrate this, for Club members in 2006, Steiff made Bagi, a well dressed lady Bear, based on a 1906 original sold by Christies in 2003. Bagi - 33 cm, in fine beige mohair, has a light blue felt jacket with metal buttons, and a cornflower blue matching skirt, and comes with a special Club black carrying bag with embroidered logo, certificate. and gold plated button. To make up the set, Bagi has a charming cat companion with the same number, based on a 1906 example from the Steiff archive. The white mohair cat is 17cm, is unjointed, and has a blue ribbon printed with "Steiff" with a small bell attached and display box and certificate. The cushion is hand made in fine velvet, with braided cord edging. The button is gold plated. Club members could order Bagi and the white cat pin cushion separately, so of course, this makes the same number sets much more rare. This set is brand new, and is complete with all the original Steiff packaging.
