Stereoview. Albumen Prints. 3 1/2 x 7 inches. Original, not a copy. "Libreria Spithover Roma 85. Piazza di Spagna". View of "Capitoline Hill" in Rome. "James Anderson was a British-born painter, sculptor (usually in bronze) and photographer. He studied painting in Paris before moving to Rome in 1838. Anderson was a member of the famous Caffé Greco circle' of early artists and photographers in Rome, which included Count Flacheron and Giacomo Caneva. Anderson himself became well- known for his views of both Rome, and the classical sculpture found in its environs. His early commercial prints often bear the blindstamp of the editor, Joseph Spithover and his frequent use of albumen-on-glass negatives is distinctive."This is one of twelve Spithover Stereoviews I'm posting today.
