This is a Sterling decorative 8 inch plate embossed with a figure who looks like a proud patriotic Uncle Sam with stars on his vest, striped pants, and a top hat. Behind him are smokestacks and industrial buildings. He has his sleeves rolled up like someone ready to go to work. It's signed N C Wyeth. N C Wyeth was a well known illustrator of books and national magazines during the first half of the 20th century. This came out of an estate auction of Senator Dorn, a former senator for the state of South Carolina. Since Wyeth was a nationally respected artist from the state of South Carolina, this plate has artistic merit, regional connections, on top of having over $100 of pure silver content at todays market quote. The back of the plate has written 'Geo. Washington Mint, Inc. with the copywrite symbol followed by 1972'. Then it says 'STERLING', and Registration # 4108. Somehow, during the last 35 years any box, COA or descriptive flyer has been lost. But it's well marked and seems to be self explanatory. It comes complete with the patina of light tarnish and light surface scatches. It weighs 10.5 ounces on my very accurate postal scales which would be 925 parts out of 1000 pure silver. Scrap value of the silver would be over $100. Art by N C Wyeth could be in the 10's of 1000's. I'm starting this below scrap with no reserve. I bought this at an auction w they kept calling it pewter. I'm willing to share the profit from their mistake with you with a really low start. Merry Christmas. Sterling is hard to picture, so be assured, this plate is prettier than the pictures show. Email if you have questions. THE SMALL PRINT. The buyer pays for shipping. The postage calculator should be on the listing page. Payment should be with Paypal, money order or cashiers check. No Echecks. Please let me know which payment method you plan to use within 24 hours of the auctions end. I don't like having to guess what your payment intentions are. Payment is requested within 7 days. I dearly love getting Paypal within a day. Non-USA buyers must pay with paypal within 48 hours. If insurance is not available, which often applies to foreign shipments, or the buyer chooses not to buy insurance, any loss after it leaves me is yours. I can't control what happens after it leaves me, but I will try to use protective shipping materials. Thank you for looking at my auction.
