This is a lovely set of flatware by Oneida Ltd. - for State House. The pattern, "Formality" was started in 1942 and was made for private distribution--other means than department or jewelry stores. The set is in very good condition for a used and older set. T are minor surface scratches, but no major flaws. The silver appears to have been well treated, and is shiney and has a nice luster. The hollow handled knives have no dings or dents. T are 42 pieces in the auction. They are of good weight. The back of all pieces says "State House", has the maker's mark of what looks like the capital building, and then says sterling. Some pieces also say "Formality". I'm sorry, but my photos of the back have not come out clearly enough to add. Additionally, this next week, I will be listing some iced teaspoons, tablespoons/soup spoons, and serving pieces, all in excellent shape in this same pattern. Following that, I will list a smaller set of this pattern and extra pieces. This set consists of: 8 knives 9" long with stainless blades 8 forks 7 and 1/8" long 8 forks a little over 6 and 1/4" long 8 butter knives 5 and 3/4" long 8 teaspoons a little over 6" long and marked on the back with an "H", which I think indicates a heavier than normal piece. 1 master butter knife 6 and 7/8" long 1 sugar shell a little over 6" long. This is a really beautiful, understated, dignified set in great condition, polished, and ready for use. If you like the pattern, you will not be disappointed with the pieces. Thanks for looking, and please keep this set in mind.
