Offered is this charming set of SIX sterling silver salt cellars with amethyst crystal inserts and SIX individual sterling pepper shakers. Each salt cellar comes with a matching salt spoon featuring a shell shaped bowl. These are packaged as two sets of three in their original satin-lined cardboard boxes with clear plastic lids. Inside one of the two boxes is a note that tells a story. The note reads: 12-5-44 . To our little daughter on her 10 th birthday. Daddy and Mother. The note is written in lead pencil on a yellowed piece of stationary with the label: Southwestern Stationery and Bank Supply, Ponca City , Oklahoma . Office outfitters, lithographing and bank printing. In the bottom left corner is a small stamp of a rifleman with the phrase: For Victory. Buy United States Defense Bonds Stamps. These sterling pieces probably were intended for the young lady's hope chest, as her parents worked to supply her with the necessities of her future married life. They would have been purchased during World War II. We obtained them from an Oklahoma City estate, apparently unused. The salt cellars measure .75 inches tall (2 cm). Inserted in the sterling base is an amethyst crystal bowl with a daisy pattern impressed in the bottom. (See photo.) The salt spoons measure 2 inches long (5 cm). The pepper shakers stand 1.5 inches tall (3.9 cm). They are in excellent condition for their years with no damage. The plastic lids to the boxes have become somewhat misshapen with heat and time. The top of the plastic lids read: Sterling Silver. In the bottom right corner is a shield with the letters V/L. We cannot say who the maker is.
