Unusual sterling silver novelty bookmark, made by Asprey & Co., London, and fully hallmarked for London 1947. This is a lovely novelty silver bookmark wiht a box clip and sprung arm, the box clip being slid onto the side or top of the pages of a book to mark the required page.The top and side of the box clip is engine turned and has a scallopped edge. The outside of the sprung arm is also engine turned.The bookmark is just over 2-3/4 inches / 70 mm long and it is 3/4 inches / 19 mm wide.The bookmark bears clear hallmarks - lion passant, London mark, letter L for 1947 and maker's mark A&Co.Ltd for the famous Bond Street firm of Asprey & Co.The silver is also stamped 'Asprey London' and 'Pat No. 257529' and 'Made in England'.Th e bookmark is in excellent condition with no dents, damage or repair. This is a rare and highly collectable bookmark. NOTE: I have an extensive collection of novelty silver bookmarks including many animals, hands, ships etc and many by important makers.
