You are bidding on one sterling silver Boehm flute, circa June 1924. A letter from the manufacturer, dated December 30, 1974, will be included. It states, "Your flute #7840 was made in June 1924 and is sterling silver. It was made in the key of Db which is not used today. The top price for your flute is approximately $100 or its weight in silver." Thirty-five years later, the value of the silver alone is $300 plus or minus and interest as a collectible has increased with the passage of time and since many were destroyed for their silver content. I do not play flute and tfore cannot tell you how well the instrument plays, but it appears to be in fine condition. I have not polished it...or even touched it (except to photograph it) for fear of damaging it as a collectible. The flute has been owned by the same couple since the early 1950's and possibly earlier. It is now being sold as part of an estate. The owner played flute as part of his varied theatrical interests. He was a radio and television executive and personality in Minneapolis, LA and NY in the 1940's-1970's. He performed in numerous stage productions in his retirement and even had small parts is movies such as Forever Amber and Red Menace early in his career. I will include some more biographical information for the winning bidder if you are interested. The winning bidder read more
