I bought this from a gentleman who was fortunate enough to be a neighbor of the renowned silversmith William D. Woodie. After his death, his widow sold some of his jewelry. Bill was known for his "nugget" style of silversmithing instead of the hammered and stamped contemporary Native American jewelry. Most of Bill's work is cast in a process that dates back to the Aztec Era and involves an intensive process where a single mistake can ruin the piece. The result is a stunning carved piece of jewelry. His hallmark is stylized WDW is which the W's resemble bird wings and the D is the "bird." This particular piece is one of Bill's early bolo ties with 4 stylized bear claws carved in bone. Between the two mounted bear claws on the slider is evidence of Bill's early experimentation with his trademark. The slider has his stylized "WDW" hallmark below the clasp. This item is used and shows normal signs of wear commensurate with age and use. The bolo tie is 40" long from end to end. The center piece is 4 3/8 " long x 2 1/8 " wide. The tips with claws measures 3 1/2 " long. The turquoise centerpiece measures 1 1/4 " x 1". Please look at the pictures carefully. I do my best to describe all items accurately, but I encourage all interested people to ask all questions prior to bidding. All sales final. No returns. Thanks for looking.
