Up for auction is a stone depiction of a standing Kannon Bosatsu, a long-stemmed lotus flower held in both hands. Clearly dated to the second year of the Kanpo Era (1742), mid-Edo Period. Very minor old loss. Variegated lichen accumulation.
An intriguing vision of compassion, strongly hewn from a brown sandstone, with irrefutable mid-18th-century temporal provenance. An excellent stone.
