Today I'm offering, in three separate auctions, Whites of Utica items all made ca. the 1890s. This auction features a large tankard measuring a little over 7", not counting the thumb lift. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The etched, or impressed, detail is very crisp, and the blue is bright and vibrant. The background is a coarse match striker type of surface. It has the typical minor mold and firing imperfections seen in this type of ware, including a klin shrinkage line inside at the bottom. T is also a tiny glaze chip at the base of the leaf that decorates the top of the handle, but it also was done in the making as t is a spot of blue in it w it was glazed over. The three different characters displayed include a chap blowing a long horn and he has a single feather in his cap. In the center is a lively jester wearing a floppy eared hat, and he's holding a tankard in one hand and a baton of sorts in the other. The third chap is really thirsty as he is holding a huge vessel full of drink which he is pouring into a large tankard which he holds in his other hand. T are no markings on the recessed base, and the lid has fine detailed tooling about, and the remnants of the tell-tale hash marks used by Whites when joining the thumb lift to the lid. Please ask questions before bidding.
