It doesnt stretch the imagination too much to picture a glamourous Hollywood Movie Star of the 1920's having these two wonderful Art Deco items in her dressing room.

Made in Austria for the stylish up market department store B. Altman & Co. in New York City.

The store was founded by Benjamin Altman an astute businessman and important Art Collector. His collection included Chinese Art which may explain the resemblance of our Mirror to a Chinese Archaic Bronze Mirror.

Made of black glass with three rectangular plaques of opalescant glass imitating green jade and mounted and framed in gilt bronze highlighted with cream and black enamels and set with marcasite. A silk tassel is looped through the centre boss and threaded on the cord is a large Chinese Jade Carved and Pierced Bead.

Now for the Scent Bottle. the main body is again of black glass with bands at the neck and body of oval facetted opalescent jade green "stones" mounted in filigree gilt bronze and cream enamel also repeated in the stopper and two triangular plaques at the base. The bottle is raised on four gilt leaf shaped feet. On the gilt frame of the base is the impressed mark B. Altman & Co. on one side and Austria on the other.

Size: Mirror. Diameter 16.5cm.(6 1/2")

Scent Bottle. Height 16cm>(6 1/4")

Condition: Mirror. Minor scratches on the mounts and loss of several marcasite stones.

Scent Bottle. The plug of the Stopper replaced but as it sits down inside the Bottle

it doesnot detract in anyway.
