The Item: we present to you a FRESH OUT OF LONG ISLAND ESTATE a STUNNING KPM Handpainted Porcelain Plaque of a Stunning Portrait Loving Scene of 3 musicians and 2 aristocratic beauties, one of which is in love with the cello player, signed J. Fantine? The portrait on the plaque itself is truly stunning, depicting the Neo Classicist obsession with precision and trueness to color, beauty, and form reminiscent of the highly important Salon in Paris: the official art exhibition of the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris , France . Between 1748 -1890 it was the greatest annual or biannual art event in the world, necessary for an artist's success and judge of beauty. This scene with stunning verticality and composition, depicts a beautiful scene perhaps from the Classical music era, the era in which Mozart and Beethoven lived and virtuoisity and the string quartet flourished (this group of musicians is one short of a string quartet (2 violins, a viola, and a cello). The central axis is the the separator point that divides the musicians from the two aristocratic girls, allowing for a neat and aesthetically pleasing compositon. The girls are framed by a dresser in tri parts each with a simple floral decoration to be able to frame the girls. The mandolin on the bottom left is the entry point of the piece and an ingenious one indeed for it sets the musical mood of the piece as well. You can almost hear the lovely music playing from the musicians. If you look closely, you can see a great amount of meaning in this scene, for though it seems like the musicians are merely entertaining the girls, one can notice that the musician playing the viola is gazing not at his music, but into the blonde girl's (the girl who is the most prominent and laying down on a couch comfortably and suggestively) eyes, who may very well be his lover. The piano on the right remains unplayed, with the musicians wanting to deliver a string like sound, perhaps the piano had not yet been made popular. Also the faint mirror on the right of the scene is very telling, perhaps for the viewer to see himself in this scene. The two paintings hanging on the top of also dilineate and frame the people in the scene. The colors are rich and with a low saturation though very romantic and grandeoise. Their clothes are stunning and look very lifelike, showing the artist's true talent as he shows the folds of the fabric. Also, perspective is established with the argular lovely carpet on the floor. This is a truly gorgeous scene with deep hidden meaning. IT is very rare to find such a stunning handpainted porcelain plaque in such a large size and condition and all around setting. It measures with frame 29" Wide and 20 1/2" in Height . Without the frame it measures a WHOPPING OVER 24" Wide and 16 1/2" Height. IT IS VERY HEAVY. Truly a gorgeous plaque surrounded by a gilted ornate (iron, brass bronze?) frame, but very solid and heavy, with swirl like and fruit and floral like designs throughout, with an inner frame with gilted tassel like decoration all around. The four corners of the frame are decorated beautifully and pay great attention to precision. The masterful handpainting by the artist lends to the overall beauty and grandiosity of the plaque.
