Every week I reserve one special listing for Sunday. This week that honor was given to an absolutely breathtaking Eisenberg Original bow brooch in its original box. I am not a professional jeweler and cannot tell you how many karats this astounding faceted aquamarine stone is, but I can tell you that the stone is just over 1" long and exactly 1" wide! I also cannot describe in jewler's terms the cut of this stone but it has diamond shaped facets all around the edge and a completely flat central top. The stone also has square facets cut into the reverse for even more sparkle and, of course, a great stone like this would not be and is not foiled, i.e., the back of the stone is open. The designer has chosen not to "gild the lily" and no further stones have been added, just one magnificent stone set in a gold colored 3" bow. I do not have a jeweler's scale, but this brooch is extremely hefty, certainly meant to grace a jacket rather than a blouse. Condition: T is no damage to report on this fantastic brooch either to the metal or to the stone. Markings: The brooch is marked "Eisenberg Original" as you can see in one of the photos. It is also marked with the number "4". Although I initially thought that this brooch was sterling with a vermeil plate, I cannot find a sterling marking despite careful inspection with a loupe so have to assume that I was mistaken. The metal does have a lovely gold color. Age: I certainly believe this brooch to be pre WWII and probably dates to the 1930s. Please note while I am very much aware that some Eisenberg jewelry has been reproduced or recast, I've never seen a reproduction of this piece. I have left the brooch in an absolutely untouched condition and it retains the patina only many years can give it. (See photos especially of the reverse.) It could be polished up to look just as it did on some special occasion 75 years ago if that is your preference but it was my intention to leave the patina intact as proof of the age of this brooch. This brooch is being offered with what I feel is a very modest opening bid, NO RESERVE and reasonable shipping of $4.00 to anyw in the United States with insurance optional (but highly recommended for this fine piece of jewelry). Foreign bidders are always welcome with exact shipping to be determined at point of sale. Foreign bidders will also be asked to add an additional .95 cents to his or her bid for a Certificate of Mailing. I can accept payment by MO or Paypal (immediate shipment) or personal check (hold one week). I am a proud member of JewelCollect or JC which is an internet group dedicated to the study of vintage and antique jewelry. Please feel free to e-mail with any questions or comments. Good luck! NOTE: I AM EMBARASSED TO SAY THAT T WAS A VERY GOOD REASON THAT I WAS SO SURE THAT THIS BROOCH WAS STERLING, I JUST FORGOT WHAT IT WAS. I OBTAINED THIS BROOCH ABOUT 15 YEARS AGO. ABOUT FIVE YEARS AGO, I SPOTTED THE IDENTICAL BROOCH (ONLY WITH A DARKER BLUE STONE) CLEARLY MARKED "STERLING". I PURCHASED THIS BROOCH AS WELL WITH THE INTENTION OF USING THE SECOND TO AUTHENTICATE THAT THE FIRST WAS STERLING AS WELL. COMES THE EMBARASSING PART. WHEN I PUT UP THIS BROOCH I FORGOT I HAD THE SECOND BROOCH. IF YOU COULD SEE THE SPARE BEDROOM WHICH IS NOW MY "JEWELRY ROOM", YOU WOULD UNDERSTAND WHY SOMETHING LIKE THIS COULD BE POSSIBLE. I AM FULLY AWARE THAT THIS BROOCH COULD BE TESTED WITH NITRIC ACID BUT I HAVE NEVER PERFORMED THIS TEST AND WAS AFRAID THAT THE ACID MIGHT BE DETRIMENTAL TO THE PIECE. THE TWO BROOCHES ARE ABSOLUTELY IDENTICAL IN EVERY WAY (EXCEPT COLOR OF STONE) EVEN DOWN TO THE NO. 4 MARK ON EACH. THEIR SIZE AND WEIGHT ARE A PERFECT MATCH. I AM SO ABSOLUTELY CONVINCED THAT THE FIRST BROOCH IS ALSO STERLING THAT I AM WILLING TO GUARANTEE IT. IF THE WINNING BIDDER DETERMINES THAT THE BROOCH IS NOT STERLING, I WILL GIVE AN IMMEDIATE REFUND OF THE PURCHASE AND SHIPPING PRICE. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO E-MAIL ME WITH ...
