This quality solid silver ‘drum’ mustard, with blue glass liner, is in the Georgian style; having a plain, drum shaped body, scroll handle, shell effect thumb rest to the lid and standing on a stepped circular base.
Apart from the usual fine surface scratching (patination), it is in excellent condition for 91 years old, with no dents, damage or repairs that I can see and has the added bonus of no monogram or inscription. The blue glass liner is also in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
The mustard measures approx. 6.2 cm high to the top of the thumb rest, 5.2 cm across the top, 5.2 cm across the base and weighs (minus glass liner) 102 grams / 3.27 troy oz.
It is fully hallmarked to the main body and has the lion passant and date letter to the inside of the lid. The assay office is Birmingham, with the date letter for, I think, 1920 and the makers mark for S W Smith & Co.
I have also included a solid silver mustard spoon, which is in the ‘Old English’ pattern. Apart from some scratches inside the bowl and the usual fine surface scratching to the rest of the spoon, it is in good condition for 87 years old and is without a monogram.
It measures approx. 6.8 cm long, 1.5 cm across the widest part of the bowl and weighs 4 grams. The assay office is Birmingham, with the date letter for 1923 and the maker’s mark for G W Lewis & Co.
This is a lovely, stylish, drum mustard to grace your table or add to your collection!
