__________________ This is a authentic letter on NATIONAL AMERICAN WOMAN SUFFRAGE ASSOICIATION stationery from Association President Mrs. Carrie Chapman Catt to Miss Jeannette Rankin who was serving on the National Council for the Prevention of War, prior to her 1940 election to Congress from Montana. Catt is trying to raise funds for a "project" and has assigned a goal of $100 to be raised from Montana. She hopes that Rankin might assist in the fund-raising. Her last sentences read "I do not know just what you are up to now. I would be glad to know. Blessings on you!". It is dated Decembe 2, 1939. The letter consists of two pages. T is only a small amount of text plus Catt's signature on the second page. No envelope was found with the letter. Jeannette Rankin made history by becoming the first woman elected to the U. S. Congress. She became Montana's representative in 1916. She had a prominent role in the feminist and suffragette movement in the first part of the 20th century. The Missoulian newspaper's list of the 100 most influential Montanans of the past century ranks her in fifth place. This letter measures about 8 1/2" by 11". In near very good condition with some corner and edge wear. The letter has been folded in thirds and t is a paper clip indentation mark in the upper left margin area.
