SUGAR DEVIL (OR FRUIT AUGER) RARE PATENT, NOV. 16, 1886. CONDITION: FINE These corkscrew-like tools were used to break loose dried fruit that were packed in barrels. Most all that were either patented or individually blacksmith-made did not have the extra two large semi-circular arms at the top of the spiral. That's what makes this patent very rare. The maple handle is without chips or checks and is tight to the body. The forged iron is without rust or pitting. 14 1/2" overall with a turned 9 1/2" handle and 8" in diameter at the two upper arms. Stamped on the handle socket: PAT. NOV.16, 86. Quite a conversation piece!------------------------------------------------------------------------ I do charge a very small handling fee of $2-3 for packaging and quick delivery to the post office. You will notice that almost every feedback mentions good and quick shipping. If the shipping seems high it is because the postal service has increased their rates many times in the past year. If the high postage for priority Mail is prohibitive email me and maybe I can ship parcel post or for larger packages ship Fed-ex. I am a shop teacher, woodworker, and tool collector for over 25 years. I use many pictures as they are worth a thousand words and count on them as part of my description. So look them over for all the little details they reveal. When I have a reserve it is fairly set below the current market value. I do not disclose this reserve unless you are an active bidder on the item. If you want to know the reserve then actively bid on the item and email me for information.
