Offering a beautiful pair of Early American Pressed Glass (EAPG) sun purple dolphin candlesticks. Each piece stands approximately 8" tall by 4.75" across the base. The bases and candle holders are clear and the dolphins are frosted. The bases are 12 sided at the bottom. The glass is thick and each piece has a nice weight. The sun purple tint is even on both pieces. There is no damage to either candlestick. I see several bubbles in the glass on each piece, which was common for glass made during the late 1800's. I cannot identify the specific maker of this set as I have not found an exact match in my glass books. I had them in my curio cabinet and they present beautifully. I took plenty of photos and I'm happy to ask questions. This style of candlesticks go for a wide range of prices, so I will leave it to you to determine their value. There will be no reserve and a reasonable starting price on this set!! Next business day first class shipping to the buyer.
If you are not aware, certain glassware made between approximately 1850 to 1915 started turning light purple when left exposed to the UV rays of sunlight due to the presence of manganese in the glass. The manganese was added to make the glass clearer and stabilize it, but they were unaware at the time that it would start to turn the glass a light purple when left exposed to the sun. The supply of manganese was needed for World War I and glass makers switched to adding selenium as a clearing agent. I will be listing other pieces of sun purple glass so please check my other listings if you are interested. Thanks for looking !!
