Sunderland Orange Lustreware Bowl with Verse Here is a beauty of a Sunderland footed bowl or open salt from the 1800s. One side features a black transfer of two men at an estate setting, perhaps a thief trying to get over the estate wall, with the owner there to greet him with furs? The other side features a framed verse admonishing classism: Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his maker. The transfers were embellished with washes of red, yellow and green glaze. Additionally, an orange luster glaze was applied to accent the rim, base, and as a filler design in swirls between front and back vignettes. Condition: Nice shape for the age. Transfers are vibrant under a still-shiny glaze. There is a fine, even crazing to the entire piece . One pit with glaze loss inside the bowl as seen in photo 3, also three curved marks inside the bowl. Perhaps a pitcher or vase was put inside at some time over the generations. Various marks on the underside of the foot, as normal.Size: Bowl diameter 4.5 inches, 3.25 inches tallMark: None Combined Shipping for multiple orders: If you are buying more than one item from us over the next 2 days, please do not pay until we send you an invoice.
