Description The title of this rare 1831 first edition is "An Economical Atlas. For the use of Families and Young Persons, Containing Thirty-Four Maps...." This is followed by a list of the 34 items (the last 2 are pictures of the Western and Eastern Hemispheres). The title in turn goes on "To Which are Added Various Tables of Population and Extent; the Height of Mountains, and Length of Rivers; Canals, Roads, Rail Roads, & c.; Together with Views, Exhibiting the Style of Building, Dress, & c. in Various Countries." However, in this printing, the tables just referred to are before the maps rather than after. The book was entered into Court Records in 1831 by S. G. Goodrich of Massachusetts. There are 6 different publishers listed with the lead publisher being Gray & Bowen of Boston. I could not find any copies of this rare book for sale currently or in the recent past on the internet. I am aware that copies of this 1831 edition are in several libraries and one private collection. So this is a rare opportunity for you. Our pictures show each page of the book. In looking at these pictures you'll notice that some are horizontal while others are vertical and titles may be at the top or the bottom.
