SUPER CONDITIONED & TAILORED U.S. ARTILLERY PRIVATE'S FATIGUE UNIFORM & OVERCOAT This lot consists of a 5 button fatigue blouse, trousers, both of which are tailor enhanced, and an issue overcoat. The Model 1883 five button blouse, was purchased from the quartermaster, and customized by a tailor. The interior is lined with a fine scarlet wool lining, blending with the regulation blue wool, and quilted stitching. The sleeve lining are custom as well. A watch pocket of chamois has been hand sewn inside the left breast. The outside of the blouse is strictly regulation, all new pattern general service buttons are present. Trousers, are also quartermaster issue, but the upper waist is completely piped in scarlet wool, as are the rear pocket slits. A decorative red stitching accents below the rear pockets as well. Red silk ribbon is used to lace up the back for size adjustment, with red wool backing the lacing. All of the suspender buttons are custom and blued in finish. The upper fly catch is patent marked 1894. All buttons are present. The trouser hems flare slightly. The overcoat is standard issue, and not tailor modified. The inside sleeve (right) is well marked Manufactured by Schuylkill Arsenal Dec 5 (?), 1901. This is the pattern adopted circa 1885-86 and worn by U.S. troops until the 1907 period. (Coast Artillery, Ordnance, and Cavalry units were the last to be issued the new 1902 uniform). The coat is lined with dark blue wool, as are all issue overcoats. The cape is lined with scarlet wool, has all the hooks for easy detaching and attaching. All general service buttons are present, both on the coat and cape. Condition of this uniform group is fabulous! I don't believe a moth hole exists, or very little blemish worth mentioning. It is for sure, a group that could not be improved upon condition wise. This grouping will do nicely in displaying the period of 1885 to 1907. I have no history with this grouping, but can say it did come together, and considering the overall condition of all components, it is assumed that they have always been together. Sizes: I can only guess...coat approx 34; trousers approx a 30+ waist. Please look at our other auctions and store items on eBay for more historical material.
