EXQUISTE MEIJI PERIOD ULTRA FINE JAPANESE CLOISONNE VASE This unusual shaped vase has rich deep purple-black background with very fine silver wire cloisonne making the iris flower motif. The vase is perfect with no damage or repairs. The copper under-vase shows on the rim and on parts of the bottom, but this vase appears to have been silver gilt over the copper top portion, which has been worn off by use. The base was gold gilt but also has seen some wear under microscopic inspection. Most of the bottom recessed area stills retain the gold gilt. This piece is from the Dr. John W. Barnett Estate of Chicago and was purchased by him from American Art Galleries, Ltd., also of Chicago, in the early 1970's. The original auction tag, #236, is still on the vase and corresponds to the American Art Galleries receipt (last picture).
