WELCOME TO MY ROSES AUCTION. Springtime is almost and the Gardener's Favorite - the Rose Bush; isgetting ready to burst forth with bushes loaded with fragrant blooms. Gardens will be filled with their fragrance and beauty as bees buzz happily amongst the bushes gathering their Nectar . Roses are the most popular subject for Turn of the Century China Painters - hands down. Please see my auction for gorgeous and fine antique porcelain - all filled with lovely, delightful Roses. This is beautiful Hand Mirror & Brush set whose style is attributed to the Limoges factories of France. The Mirror & Brush have porcelain backs that are decorated with the Mixtion method - a method heavily employed by professional China Painters from the early 1800's onwardy - which incorporates fine quality transfer with hand painting. These two pieces are decorated with Wild Roses on their backs. The Ormolu metal is very ornate with raised embossed Roses on the handles and a great looped rim around the beveled Mirror. This is a very handsome set that would grace any dresser or add to your Mirror or Brush collection. The Mirror measures 9 3/4" long and 3 7/8" across the back. The Brush measures 8 3/4" long and 2 3/4" across the back. Overall, both pieces are in excellent condition. The metal looks beautiful with it's patina, the porcelain looks fine - as does the decoration - the bristles on the brush look complete and the mirror itself is okay. T is a silvering loss on one edge and silvering loss that looks like a scratch - but it is under the mirror not on the mirror itself. This set presents beautifully. The Limoges Guerin factory producted alot of these kinds of mirrors which can be referenced in Debbie Dubay's Antique Limoges at Home and Living With Limoges. Another reference is Mary Gaston's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain 3rd Series, page 141.
