WE ARE CELEBRATING OUR TENTH SUCCESSFUL YEAR ON EBAY WITH A LINEUP OF WONDERFUL ANTIQUE AUCTIONS! WE THANK THE EBAYERS WHO HAVE BEEN SUCH A PLEASURE TO DEAL WITH ALL THESE YEARS! An outstanding piece of c1780 silk embroidery, with inked background. A cottage with a porch, a meandering stream and a sipping horse all make for a lovely setting. Mountains in the background with stratus clouds in the sky, a windmill and birds flying are inked details. The embroidery is done with dark silk thread or floss. A lighter floss is used that may be hair, or may be silk. It is difficult to tell. Done with a superb hand. The detail is utterly amazing, with even the tiny leaves having veins! In lovely condition, with only very minor puckering to the sky left, and what looks like a stretching of the silk over a wire behind the picture. Rebacked early 20th century. I think that in the rebacking, they may have left a wire that the silk lies upon. No stains, holes, tears, mold or discoloration. A marvelous 18th century example of needlework, framed in carved, gilt wood frame which may be original. Hanging ring to the top back. Framed piece 8 1/2" X 6 1/2"; visual image 6 3/4" X 4 7/8". Shipping to anyw on the continental US is by USPS Priority Mail for 2 pounds from zip 12814, with NO handling charges. Insurance is required. Paypal, checks or money orders are all fine.
