RARE 1950’s Original Photo JAMES DEAN in a PORSCHE ! Starting Bid 99 cents !!! .... Absolutely NO RESERVE !!! DESCRIPTION GIANT KILLER ! An Outstanding Vintage 1950’s ORIGINAL Photograph depicting James Dean behind the wheel of a Porsche 550 Spyder. Dean would eventually acquire one of only 90 made by the factory and had it customized by George Barris, (who would go on to design the Batmobile). When Dean introduced himself to Alec Guinness (a.k.a. Master Obi-to my generation) outside a restaurant, he asked him to take a look at the Porsche. Guinness thought the car appeared 'sinister' and told Dean: 'If you get in that car, you will be found dead in it by this time next week.' This encounter took place on September 23, 1955 and the rest as they say is history as seven days later, the world mourned the shocking loss of one of the great promising actors. Interestingly in that the Porsche 550 was known around racing circles as the “Giant Killer” . NOT because of the death of Dean who was killed during the film of the movie “Giant” but due to the automobile’s success in a number of races including giving Porsche its 1st overall win in a major sports car race. Yet the death of the actor made the Porsche 550 Spyder infamous. This is a beautiful, RARE antique period photograph measuring 8” x 10” with a publication credit stamp and date read more
