DESCRIPTION Image used for Mize’s 1953 Topps Baseball Card # 77 ! A Superb Vintage 1950 ORIGINAL photograph depicting New York Yankees slugger, Johnny Mize taken by renowned sports photographer William Jacobellis. The Hall of Famer they called the ‘Big Cat’ is shown towering over Yankee Stadium in the background, smiling for the camera with his Louisville Slugger bats that did much damage to the opposition. This gorgeous 8” x 10” 1st generation press photograph was shot by Jacobellis and issued by the New York Yankees to the media and carries the stamp of their publicity department from the 1949-1952 period. One of the FINEST images taken of Mize, card collectors will instantly recognize this shot as the one inspired by artist Gerry Dvorak 56-years ago to create the portrait used for Mize’s 1953 Topps Chewing Gum baseball card #77 in the set !
