DESCRIPTION:

An extremely rare 19th century Chinese export lidded vase, decorated with alternating panels of birds, butterflies, flowers and figures. The panels are bounded by four claw dragons in blue, and the lion ring handles and bat handle of the lid, have been heavily gilded.

SIZE:

400mm (16 inches) High

CONDITION:

No chips, no cracks and no restoration. Minor expected wear to the enamels and gilding. Kiln adhesions to the foot rim.

DATING:

19th century, probably 3rd quarter

COMMENT:

These large and rare 19th century Canton famille rose and rose medallion porcelains have been escalating enormously in value. This is a particularly rare shape. Note also the gilding in the ladies' hair, a generally accepted indicator of quality.
