Chamba figures are rare and their function uncertain. Some sculptures from this region are placed in the inner courtyards of families as protection. Others are objects of prestige, and belong to important persons such as diviners, healers or blacksmiths. These figures have functions in ceremonial activities, i.e. as guardians or as mediums. Chamba figures are used in healing ceremonies or in divination ceremonies for determining the cause of an illness. The patient must supply sacrificial offerings as compensation for the services. There is originality in the way the arms are joined to the shoulders: the wide hands separated from the body. The geometric facial features contribute to an impression of power. Incredibly rich patina, 26" high including custom brass base. PayPal preferred. International shipping OK; cost are estimated and will be finalized after auction ends.
