A very fine example of an Ancient Egyptian early Ptolemaic gilt cartonnage mask decorated with polychrome over gesso, the finely constructed oval face beautifully gilded, the full lips indented at the corners, straight nose, wide-set almond-shaped eyes with black irises, brows and extending cosmetic lines, wearing a patterned broad collar, traces of a net pattern on the shoulders and a green striated wig. Cartonnage is a material consisting of layers of linen stiffened with gesso (plaster) and then decorated with paint.
